Hardway Outdoors Hunter "Austin" from Pittsburg PA was hunting NY public land for the first time. Austin hit a doe the evening before in the paunch, achieving a compete pass-through on the deer. I arrived in the morning with Ariel. After a long two mile hike to the hit location, (with an extremely sore foot) we began the track. Ariel quickly took us to the only visible blood, then headed into some really thick multiflora rose thorn. Ariel did not seem thrilled about that & backed out. She then tracked up hill 400 yards to a bedded fawn, aka wrong deer. I took her back to the only blood, she again attempted to penetrate the multiflora rose without success. After an hour plus of failed attempts to penetrate the "death bush" I was almost ready to call the track. I swung Ariel down hill paralleling the multiflora, Ariel seized the opportunity to enter the thicket at the first opening she saw, dragging me 200 yards to Austin's doe. We were pumped, until I remembered we still had a two mile hike back to the vehicle.
